A Message From our Principal, Mrs. Yanta

Howdy, Longhorn Family!

It’s been a GReat week at The Ranch! Our teachers and staff have worked together to prepare our beautiful campus and, more importantly, prepare ourselves to welcome our Longhorns back for the 2026–2027 school year.

As we begin a new year, we are embracing our theme: 1% Better Every Day. For us, that means we don’t have to be perfect—we simply have to be willing to grow, improve, and make a positive difference each day.
At GRHS, our core values guide that growth: Relationships First, High Expectations, and Adding Value by leaving everything better than we found it.

Our most important core value is Relationships First. Because of that, we are intentionally slowing down at the beginning of the year. Teachers will spend the first two days focused on building relationships, establishing classroom communities, and helping students get to know one another. We will teach zero content during those first two days because we believe that people come before content. When students know they are valued, known, and supported, they are ready to learn, grow, and become 1% better every day.

This week, we welcomed our newest Longhorns, including the Class of 2030, celebrated the opening of The CTE Center, got ROWDY at LCISD Convocation, and on Saturday, some of our student-athletes represented GRHS as we visited an event at one of our new neighborhoods, Austin Point. We are excited to see the ways our students will represent The Ranch throughout our community this year!

Freshmen who were unable to receive their Class of 2030 shirt at Orientation—don’t worry! We will make sure you receive one during lunches during the first few days of school. A special THANK YOU to Mr. Terrando and our Yearbook and Journalism teams for providing the funds for these shirts and helping create a special memory for the Class of 2030!

As we begin the school year, we ask for your patience, grace, and kindness. The first few days will take a little longer as nearly 2,200 Longhorns arrive, navigate car drop-off and pick-up, enter through our safety systems, and get settled into transportation routines. That’s okay. We are all getting back into the groove—and we are all working toward being 1% better every day.

There is a lot of important information in this edition, so please take a few minutes to review it carefully. Your partnership helps us create a smooth and successful start to the 2026–2027 school year.

Here’s to a new year, a new opportunity, and a commitment to getting 1% better every day.
Let’s Go Horns! #OHOH (One Herd One Heartbeat)

Student Schedules

Student schedules became viewable in Skyward on August 7th for those who completed the Skyward Beginning of the Year forms. To prepare for the first day of school, students please check Skyward on Monday evening (as your schedule might have changed due to leveling) and write down your 1st and 2nd period room numbers as you will NOT be able to check your phone during the school day to see this information. If you forget to do this, we will have student's 1st and 2nd period classes posted on the wall down main street for students to find their ID number and their room number. Students will go to 1st period and then 2nd period. When in 2nd period, they will receive their entire schedule on colored paper. If you get to either your 1st or 2nd period and you are not on your teacher's roster, you will report to the computer lab room 1117 in the main hallway by the library for your new schedule to be printed out so you can report to the correct classroom. If you have a hole on your schedule or two classes on your schedule for the same period, you will report to the library during that class period for a counselor to assist you.

Please note that schedule correction requests are no longer being accepted unless they meet one of the seven approved reasons outlined in the LCISD Course Catalog (Page 17).
You can view the course catalog here:
Schedule Corrections Will Only Be Considered During the First Four Days of the Semester for the Following Reasons:
A. Student is a senior not scheduled in a course needed for graduation.
B. Student has already earned credit for a course in which they are currently scheduled.
C. Student does not have the prerequisite(s) for a scheduled class.
D. Student has previously failed a course with the same teacher.
E. Student has been dismissed from a program that requires approval for placement.
F. Student does not have a complete schedule (students should report to the library during the missing period).
G. Data error (examples: no lunch, duplicate classes, free period; students should report to the library during the affected period).

Counselors will be available during all lunches on Thursday, August 13, and Friday, August 14 to assist students with schedule concerns.
Students needing assistance should speak directly with their counselor outside the cafeteria during lunch. This allows for a collaborative, face-to-face process. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Dual Credit - Fall Payment Due Now!

Log into your LONE STAR account and submit your payment. If you have any questions/concerns, please email Ms. K. Ethridge: kimberly.ethridge@lcisd.org

DEADLINE: Tuesday, August 18th @ 5:00 PM

Bus Transportation Forms PAST DUE - Next steps !

All Lamar CISD parents and guardians must complete the required student transportation form to confirm their students’ main form of transportation and to submit an official request for bus transportation for the 2026-2027 school year.
Please note: Submitting this form does NOT automatically qualify your student for bus transportation. Eligibility requirements for bus transportation are in the Lamar CISD
Student Handbook:
Important deadlines for 2026-2027:
·    Submit this form no later than August 2, for your student to ride the bus for the first day of school.
·    If a form is not submitted by Aug. 2, your student WILL NOT receive bus transportation until August 24
·    For all forms submitted between August 3 to August 21, bus transportation will begin August 24.
·    Contact your student's campus to request any change in your transportation choice after August 21. Please note, any changes after August 21 may take up to five business days to go into effect.

Check Your Bus Route!

As a reminder, the transportation form closed on Sunday, August 2nd. Our routing team is currently processing transportation requests, enrollment changes, and route adjustments to ensure every student is assigned to the correct bus and stop. As routes continue to be refined, we encourage parents to regularly check VersaTrans e-Link for the most current transportation information. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to ensure all routes are safe, accurate, and ready for the start of the school year.

Beginning-of-Year Forms Due Now!

Dear Parents/Guardians,
For the 2026-27 school year, all required Lamar Consolidated ISD beginning-of-year forms must be completed online through the Skyward Family Access Center.
Online forms are available through the Family Access Center starting July 27th and all forms need to be submitted no later than Sept. 11th. Your student’s schedule will not be available online through the Family Access Center until all the beginning-of-year forms are completed for your student and after the campus has released schedules. Student schedules will be available online after 4pm, on Friday, August 7th, if all online forms have been completed.
Instructions, important dates, a username/password reset button, and technical assistance regarding the online forms can be found by clicking here
For those who need access to a computer or the Internet, computers will be available on campus Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Student ID Protocol

Student ID Card Protocol Reminder
To help ensure that all students are properly identified on campus and to promote accountability, George Ranch High School requires students to have a visible student ID card or approved temporary sticker while on campus.
Each student will receive an initial student ID card at Ranch Round Up or on the first day of school at no cost. Students are also allowed one replacement ID card per semester at no charge if the original ID is lost, damaged, or misplaced.
After the free replacement has been used, additional replacement ID cards will cost $5 each. Students may purchase up to four additional replacement ID cards, for a maximum replacement fee of $20.
Temporary stickers will only be issued while a replacement ID card is being processed or printed, and they are not intended to serve as permanent replacements.
Repeated requests for replacement ID cards may be considered a failure to comply with GRHS dress code and student identification expectations. After six total ID card issuances, additional replacement requests may result in progressive disciplinary consequences, including ISS assignments and possible loss of semester exam exemptions

Dismissal - Pick Up Procedural Reminders

PLEASE BE PATIENT AND KIND!
If you are picking up a student in the front of the school during dismissal, you are allowed to double park on Longhorn Drive while you wait (the driveway closest to the front of the school). Please leave the center of the driveway open with enough space to accommodate emergency vehicles. Also, please pull forward to the vehicle in front of you, leaving as little space as possible.

However, when Longhorn Drive is full, you will be directed into the front parking lot. At that time, we ask that you find an empty parking space and avoid parking and waiting in the travel lanes within the parking lot. Waiting in the travel lanes can obstruct emergency vehicles, as well as those parents in parking spaces trying to exit. Please communicate your parking space number to your student so they may find you. Your cooperation and patience will expedite the egress of traffic off campus. Eventually, you may notice that arriving on campus at 4:00pm or slightly later may minimize your wait time on campus.

Bring Your Own Laptop Guidelines

LCISD will continue its BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop) program this school year. This program allows students to use a personal laptop in any Dual Credit or Advanced Placement (AP) course.
The BYOL policy and required permission form are linked below. In order for a student to use a personal laptop in a Dual Credit or AP course, the permission form must be completed and submitted to each teacher of the course in which the laptop will be used.
Please complete the form and have your student turn it in to their Dual Credit and/or AP teacher to ensure a smooth start to the school year.
