A Message From our Principal, Mrs. Yanta

Howdy, Longhorn Family!

First, a huge congratulations to Kelly Wu and Roy Greene on being named 2026 National Merit Semifinalists! This incredible accomplishment places them among approximately 16,000 seniors nationwide—less than 1% of U.S. high school students. Kelly and Roy are among Texas’s highest-scoring PSAT/NMSQT students and have earned a well-deserved place among the nation’s top academic performers. Longhorn Nation is incredibly proud of you both! We’ll be cheering you on as you pursue National Merit Finalist standing and the opportunity to compete for prestigious scholarships.

The first six weeks ends Friday, September 18, and all grades are due that day. Students, this is a great time to take a close look at your progress. Check Skyward, stay on top of your work, ask questions, and seek help when you need it. Remember, your success is in your hands. Taking ownership of your learning and advocating for yourself are important steps toward becoming the very best version of yourself.

I’ll be away from campus for a few days celebrating my birthday with family and will return on Wednesday, September 16. I know our GRHS Staffamily will continue to take care of one another and, most importantly, our 2,200 Longhorns. While I’m away, please reach out to my administrative assistant, Cecilia Alvarado, or Associate Principal Michael Holmquist if you need assistance. Their contact information, along with other helpful resources, can be found at the end of this newsletter.

One Herd. One Heartbeat. 1% Better Every Day.
